Celebrating the victory of good over evil
and
an opportunity for gifts and giving
Dashain – It is like Christmas in Nepal
Dashain (Daśãi, बडादशैँ) is the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepal annual calendar, celebrated by Nepalese people, along with their diaspora throughout the globe. It is the most anticipated festival in Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, and North Indian hills. People return from all parts of the world, as well as different parts of the country, to celebrate together.
All government offices, educational institutions and other offices remain closed during the festival period. Among the fifteen days on which it is celebrated, the most important days are the first, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and the fifteenth.
Dashain celebrates the victory of good over evil

Buying and wearing new clothes is an important part of the festival. As many people living in the villages are below the poverty line, for them it is often the case that new clothes come only with Dashain. Almost all the shops have festival offers and discounts. This makes shopping more attractive. Clothes is the item which has the highest sales during the festival
We are already making preparations
We celebrate the festival with our children, and each year we seek to ensure they have a new outfit (or even just an item of clothing, or shoes) and some traditional festival foods. Like Christmas there is a wonderful sense of anticipation, food preparation and a few trips to the shops to select the gifts that will be distributed.
It is a family time, a time to get together and honour each other, a time for ‘giving’ and for acknowledging all that is good.

with some sixty children , and their families, to support we have a big shopping list for our celebrations

It is a family time, a time to get together and honour each other, a time for ‘giving’ and for acknowledging all that is good.
Please share in celebrating with us, if you can make a small gift so that we can give the kids a treat and something new to wear that will very much involve you in the whole celebration.
